Protect Your Space with Confidence – Waterproofing Made Simple

Our Waterproofing Calculator makes it easy to protect your bathroom or wet room from water damage. Just enter your room dimensions or area, select the surfaces you wish to waterproof, and the calculator will give you the quantities and cost. Whether you’re a homeowner doing it yourself or a professional contractor wondering how to estimate waterproofing this tool will help you budget and have all the materials to protect your walls and floors.

Instruction Manual

Step 1: Select Input Method

You have 3 options to input your room dimensions:

See detailed explanation below.

Option 1: Enter Room Dimensions Manually

If you choose this option, you will need to input your room’s length, width, and height in mm in the relevant fields.

Then select appropriate waterproofing type:

Select Waterproofing Type

You can choose:

Full Waterproofing

Full Waterproofing

Full waterproofing means the whole room is covered, including all walls and floor. This is recommended for high traffic areas or where full coverage is required. By waterproofing the whole space you get full coverage, no moisture can seep into walls, floors and other structural elements.

Shower Area Waterproofing

Shower area waterproofing focuses on the area around the shower tray, 500mm beyond the tray’s edges. This is a cost-effective solution, especially for typical residential bathrooms where full room waterproofing might not be necessary. By focusing on the shower area you get sufficient protection without the need for full room treatment.

If you choose this option, please enter your shower tray size (X and Y dimensions in millimeters) and choose the tray position:

Shower Area Waterproofing

Shower Tray Position Options

Left Corner Shower Tray

Left Corner

For installations where the shower tray is in the left corner, water is directed away from sensitive areas. This configuration uses the space to the maximum and contains the water in the immediate shower area, to prevent water damage to surrounding surfaces.

Right Corner

For right corner installations, this setup optimizes the space and contains the water in the designated area. Right corner waterproofing creates a streamlined shower zone that minimizes water seepage even in small spaces.

Right Corner Shower Tray
Enclosed on Both Sides Shower Tray

Enclosed on Both Sides

This option is for showers that are enclosed on both sides, for a more private showering area. Both sides waterproofing contains the water in the shower and away from the open areas of the room, perfect for busy family bathrooms.

Glass on the Back

With a glass on the back, this setup gives a modern look and water is directed to the drain. For modern spaces, back waterproofing keeps the shower looking good and functional, water flows efficiently and doesn’t spread to other areas.

Excluded areas (Optional)

Waterproofing excluded areas

If there are areas in the room that do not require waterproofing (e.g., doors, windows, built-in furniture), you can exclude them:

  • Click on Add Excluded Area to specify these areas.

  • No excluded areas defined yet will be displayed if none are added.

Note: Excluding unnecessary areas saves material and cost.

Number of Rooms:

  • Number of Rooms: Enter the number of rooms you want to include in the calculation.

Option 2: Enter Room Area (m²)

If you know the total area of your room, enter it here.

  • Room Area (m²): Enter the total area in m².

  • Excluded Areas (Optional): Click Add Excluded Area to specify areas that don’t need waterproofing (e.g. doors, windows, built-in furniture).

  • Number of Rooms: Enter the number of rooms to include.

Option 3: Enter Exact Waterproofing Area (m²)

If you know the exact area to be waterproofed, use this option.

  • Exact Waterproofing Area (m²): Enter the area to be waterproofed in m².

  • Number of Rooms: Enter the number of rooms to include.

Step 2: Results

After clicking Calculate, you'll see the Waterproofing Calculation Result.

Per Room Calculations:

  • Total Area per Room: The total area from your inputs (e.g. 9.00 m²).

  • Excluded Area per Room: The total excluded area per room (e.g. 1.00 m²).

  • Adjusted Waterproofing Area per Room: The area to be waterproofed per room, with a 10% buffer for extra material (e.g. 8.80 m²).

Total Calculation:

  • Total Waterproofing Area: The total area to be waterproofed across all rooms (e.g. 8.80 m²).

  • Total Cost: The estimated cost for the total waterproofing area (e.g. €299.97).

The calculations are based on your selected options and inputs. If you have chosen to waterproof only the shower area, the tool will adjust accordingly, taking into account the shower tray size and position.

Important Note: The calculated waterproofing area includes 10% extra waterproofing material to be sure you don’t run out. We recommend adding this little buffer.

Step 3: Choose Your Waterproofing Kits

Based on your calculation, you will see a list of suggested waterproofing kits for your project. Each kit shows the product name, price, coverage area, and quantity.

The kits are slightly above your calculated requirements to make sure you have enough material. You can adjust quantities or choose different kits as needed.

Add the kits to the cart individually or use "Add All to Cart" for ease. You can also download a detailed PDF report of the materials and costs by clicking "Download PDF".

Waterproofing Cost Factors

  • Surface Area: The bigger the area the more material needed.

  • Type of Waterproofing: Full room waterproofing or shower area waterproofing affects the amount of material and cost.

  • Excluded Areas: Excluding areas that don’t need waterproofing will reduce the total cost.

  • Materials Used: Higher quality waterproofing materials may cost more upfront but will last longer.

Waterproofing - FAQs

Do I need full waterproofing for my bathroom?

Full waterproofing, which includes all walls and floor, is recommended for high-use areas or for maximum moisture protection. Full waterproofing is ideal for high-traffic bathrooms or wet rooms to prevent water damage.

What’s the difference between full waterproofing and shower area waterproofing?

Full waterproofing covers the whole room, shower area waterproofing covers the area around the shower tray, 500mm beyond the tray. Shower area waterproofing is for residential use, while full waterproofing is for complete moisture protection.

How does the waterproofing calculator work?

The calculator allows you to input room dimensions, select waterproofing type, exclude areas, and get a materials list. It’s a planning and budgeting tool for your waterproofing project.

What waterproofing materials to use?

We recommend using tanking liquid or waterproofing membrane as the main waterproofing material, sealing tapes for joints, and corner seals for walls and floor edges. These will give you full protection.

What’s the coverage area for waterproofing materials?

The coverage area depends on the product, room size, and any excluded non-waterproofed areas. The calculator will give you an exact amount based on your input so you only buy what you need.

How much primer do I need for waterproofing?

Primer quantity is based on surface area. Generally, primer quantity is calculated as: Total surface area (sqm) × Primer consumption rate (litres per sqm). Enter your room size in the calculator and it will give you the primer amount.

Do I need to waterproof bathroom walls?

Yes, waterproofing bathroom walls is necessary to prevent moisture from getting into the walls, which could cause structural damage. Even with tiled walls, waterproofing is recommended for an extra layer of protection.

What’s the cheapest way to waterproof a shower wall?

A complete waterproofing kit is often the most cost-effective as it includes primer, tanking liquid, sealing tape, and corner seals all in one package.

How do I exclude areas?

In the calculator, you can input the dimensions of doors, windows, or other surfaces that don’t need waterproofing. This way you only cover the essential areas and save on materials.

Do I get waterproofing advice for unusual layouts?

Yes, we offer custom waterproofing advice. The calculator also allows detailed input for unusual layouts, including options to select shower tray positions and exclude areas.

What will I get from the calculator?

The calculator will give you the total area to waterproof, a materials list (primers and sealing components), and an estimated cost based on your project details. So you can plan your waterproofing project accurately.

Can I download a summary of my waterproofing project?

Yes, you can download a PDF report that includes all project details, material quantities, and costs.
