There are many ways to cover a walk-in shower to protect the rest of the bathroom from splashing. Below we present the most popular of them. Each solution has its strengths and weaknesses. Taking this into account, the type of shower screen you choose should be adapted to the appearance of your future bathroom, personal preferences and possibilities.
BRICK OR CONCRETE WALL
This is surely the most durable and solid solution. The wall can be built from many different materials. Starting from aerated concrete blocks, through ordinary brick, to solid architectural concrete. Durability is the greatest asset of such buildings. No problem, we can hang any number of hooks for clothes and towels in any place. There will also be no problem with shelves and alcoves for basic toiletries from both the shower and the bathroom side. Another advantage is the freedom of the shape of the wall. We do not have to limit ourselves to a straight wall. Any height is also not a problem. There are many ways of finishing and we can adapt them to the bathroom decor. We can use bare architectural concrete, standard tiles, mosaic, bare brick and many others. Unfortunately, the problem is the dimensions of such installation. A brick wall occupies by far the most space, which will not be an optimal solution for small bathrooms.
DRYWALL AND XPS BOARDS
An alternative that will save us a little space and at the same time save the ceiling some weight will be a wall made of plasterboard, cement boards or XPS foam. Here, we also have a certain freedom of shape. This is a slightly less robust solution than the previous option, but we still do not have to treat carefully, such as a glass wall. In this case adequate waterproofing is very important. As in the case of a masonry wall, dimensions and installation do not matter because everything is assembled in parts.
FRAMELESS SHOWERSCREEN
Currently, one of the most popular solutions in modern bathroom decor. It will fit almost any bathroom style, has a simple, minimalist and thus a timeless character. It is possible to install smaller screens without specialist knowledge and tools. However, such a modern solution also has a number of disadvantages. First of all, the glass does not give you the freedom of shape and size. Installation of larger glass is very problematic. In addition, despite the special glass hardening, it has its weak points on the sides to watch out for. All nicks and dents increase the risk of cracking. A proper installation is also required, particularly when it comes to doors. Unfortunately, glass showerscreens need to be given more attention when it comes to keeping them clean.
